Oakes Writing Consultants was established after I began to have calls from more clients than I could handle myself. So initially, I began to network with other writers and refer these to my clients. However, my clients continued to return to because of quality and service, so it simply made better sense to oversee the work myself. In addition, I felt that in many cases, clients could be taught to do what they needed themselves so I began to both consult and provide written support through my blog, which at the time was jeffoakes.me. As my business grew, I simply kept the site name, which I am told is a big mistake. But because I never plan to sell my company (because to me, that is like selling-out my clients), I really don’t see the issue. My clients seek me by name and this is the best way to find me.
In response to demand from some of the writers in my group, I set up a small publishing arm. It would seem that demand for what I offer is greater than I expected, so I decided to establish a separate domain for this venture. The site name is JOPPublishinggroup.com which is more properly JOakesEntertainment Publishing or simply,
JOEPub. I know, it sounds more like a place to get a good beer (which is ironic since I do not drink beer), but that is just how the acronym worked out.
In any case, this is where I will showcase new authors and their work.
I am please to announce that on my first effort to sign new book authors, I have found five which I believe are talented and should enjoy long careers as published authors. Four of these are from the States, but one of note lives in Nigeria. I have just completed readings and editing of three of the books and these should be available soon. I also recently signed a promising new author named Sua Mena who lives in Belgium. She writes in three languages and her first book of poetry, Gritos en Desvelo is now available on Amazon.
A little more about my book publishing firm.
Unlike most so-called publishers you will find on the Internet today, I do not charge a fee to publish your book. Why?
Simple. Just like the big publishing houses, I believe that it is my job to sell your work and that is how I make my money. I believe it is wrong to try to make money from people who want to sell their books–the money should be made from the people who BUY the books.
That said however, unlike the big publishing houses who regularly turn down authors, I WILL publish anyone. Why? Am I insane?
Perhaps, but more than that, I believe that everyone on earth has at least one good story in them. They may not be able to word it like Stephen King or Nicholas Sparks or Danielle Steele (did I spell that right?), but they all deserve a chance in my opinion. And lest we forget, the big publishing houses regularly turn down authors who become sensations, best-sellers. John Grisham was unable to sell his first book and had difficulty finding someone to pick up his second, The Firm. When they did, they asked about other books and he told them the only one he had was the one they turned down–The Pelican Brief. The point is, the big publishing houses don’t know it all.
So if you or anyone you know would like to be published, just fill out the form below and I will get in touch asap.
I will then prepare the cover art, publish, and market. I will also teach you how to market your books as well so that you can take the greatest advantage of the publishing revolution that is happening today. In other words, we will form a partnership of sorts. The concept is something of a fusion between traditional publishing and modern self-publishing. The only thing I ask is that your manuscript be edited and ready for publishing–I will handle the formatting. If you already have a cover you would like used, I will do my best to use it or work with you to get it workable. If you need your work edited, I am working on making connections with others to have this done, so I may offer this service in the future. The work will need to be professionally presentable prior to publishing.
I look forward to reading your work,
C. Jeff Oakes
And of course, look for my books on Amazon, where I publish exclusively.
